Vermilion Economic Development Alliance (VEDA) encourages you to shop close to “ho-ho-home” this holiday season and re-invest your hard-earned dollar back
into the community by supporting locally owned businesses! The Saturday following Thanksgiving has been named “Small Business Saturday,” providing a well-deserved spotlight and necessary opportunity for the public to come together and support local businesses and help the community thrive. Shopping local adds up to big things! How? Purchases mase at locally owned businesses keeps your money in the community which supports jobs, safety, schools, roads, and our local economy as a whole. You can make a difference in your community and stretch your dollar further by shopping at local businesses this holiday season, kicking off with Small Business Saturday on November 26.
VEDA is celebrating Small Business Saturday with a fun. family-friendly promotional shopping event, and we invite all to join in! From one side of Vermilion Parish to the other, VEDA has created a list of participating retailers in each town/city and is encouraging shoppers to explore businesses–both new and familiar ones–while getting a stamp at each stop. Once a business shopping guide is complete with two stamps per city/town, shoppers can turn the completed guide in for a chance to win the grand prize drawing!
VEDA’s parish-wide shopping event encourages shoppers to support local businesses and learn about different products/services offered throughout the parish, while also getting holiday shopping done through a family-friendly activity. Join us in celebrating Small Business Saturday and encourage your friends and family to shop local and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses, promoting a more vibrant community!
The Details:
VEDA’s Small Business Saturday “Shopping Scavenger Hunt” kicks off on Saturday, November 26 for Small Business Saturday and continues through Friday, December 2. This allows more time for shoppers to spend browsing in stores, the opportunity to visit more stores, and allows businesses that do not open on Saturday or have reduced operating hours, the chance to participate.
The objective is to explore retail businesses in Vermilion Parish, spend your dollar locally for holiday shopping, and have fun while doing it!
Shoppers:
- Get started by grabbing our Small Biz Saturday Business List 2022, which you can download here and print or picked up at any participating business location, and start shopping– simple! VEDA encourages you to visit businesses you may have never gone to or try new products from familiar stores.
- To remain eligible for the prize package drawings, you must stamp at least two businesses for each city/town in parish. This promotes some fun in parish traveling and trying new things; look around, shop and enjoy making holiday purchases! Remember, you have until Friday, December 2 so be sure to check business hours for each store before heading to new locations.
- Once you have completed at least two stamps per city/town, please drop your Small Biz Saturday Business List off at Brasseux’s Hardware in either Abbeville or Maurice by the deadline of Friday, December 2. The prize packages will be drawn on Saturday, December 3!
Prize Packages:
This year’s prize packages include
- Grand Prize: One night stay for two at Mrs. Rose’s Bed & Breakfast including the full package of a crawfish excursion with Crawfish Haven! Not only do the winners get to participate in a crawfish excursion but will also enjoy the fruits of their labor with boiled crawfish–5 lbs. of crawfish, corn and potatoes per person. The next morning the winners will get a crawfish omelette, boudin egg rolls, and a Cajun biscuit for breakfast!
- Additional Prize: Winner will be drawn for a large prize package including a culmination of gifts and gift cards donated by participating businesses into one fantastic gift basket!
You may not realize it, but every time you pick up a cup of coffee from your favorite neighborhood cafe, dine at a local restaurant, or buy a gift from a local gift, craft or hardware store, you’re shopping small and making a difference. We are so excited for you to shop locally this holiday season, kicking off with Small Business Saturday!
