This November 27th be a part of the annual holiday shopping tradition that brings together communities in support of their favorite small businesses. Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) is a nationwide movement with local impact.

The Vermilion Economic Development Alliance (VEDA) invites the business community and residents to be a part of the effort.

“For the fifth year in a row, the Vermilion Economic Development Alliance has been selected as a Small Business Saturday Neighborhood Champion! As a Neighborhood Champion, we spread the word about how important shopping local can be and connect Vermilion Parish businesses to available resources,” says Anne Falgout, Executive Director.

Companies can sign up for free marketing assistance, tips and tools to make the most of their involvement, and access to special Shop Small décor and swag to get their storefront ready for the main event. The only eligibility requirement is that the business has an establishment in Vermilion Parish. This year VEDA is extending promotions throughout the holiday season and is adding a small twist take safety into consideration.

“This holiday season we’re inviting Vermilion-based virtual retailers to participate, too,” adds Falgout, “We want to support our local entrepreneurs who have taking their shops online to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the meet the ever-changing demands of shoppers.”

Customers are encouraged to skip the holiday rush and visit participating Small Business Saturday shops in the parish and online to keep the local business community vibrant and help those tax dollars, employment opportunities, and companies stay close to home.
