After Vermilion’s first parish-wide job fair in March of 2016, local civic leaders and workforce partners wanted to create a dedicated pathway to employers and job seekers. Using funds earmarked for workforce development, the Vermilion at Work initiative was designed and crafted. Vermilion at Work is an over-arching brand for employment services of all kinds, assisting those seeking career opportunities or employees in Vermilion Parish.
“When we surveyed (job fair) participating employers, they told us that they would like year-round assistance connecting with potential employees. And because of our generous supporters, we’re able to offer that assistance through this new initiative,” said Anne Falgout of Vermilion Economic Development Alliance. Unused funds collected from Job Fair sponsors are being put to work with the same goals in mind.
Program areas include Workforce Connect, Employer Tune-Ups, Career Readiness, and a connection to Community Resources. In addition to the annual Vermilion Parish Job Fair, opportunities to connect jobs with applicants will be marketed under the Vermilion at Work brand. Employers can receive updated information on best practices, legal requirements, and available programs via the Employer Tune-Ups. Career Readiness know-how ranging from resume writing, to dressing for success, will be shared. And important Community Resources tied to employing Vermilion Parish job seekers can be submitted and distributed through Vermilion at Work’s communications.
“We are excited to collaborate once again, and bring quality services to the people of Vermilion Parish,” Lynn Guillory, Vermilion Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, added.
