Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I have a business idea, but I don't know where to start, can you help?
A: We always recommend someone with a “pre-venture” attend a Starting & Financing a Small Business Class. We occasionally have a class available in the parish, but they are held all over Acadiana. Once you have completed that course you will have access to small business counselors at the Louisiana Small Business Development Center. We’ll work with them to get your business plan bank ready.
Q: How do I get help with my existing business (workforce, marketing, finding new customers)?
A: It’s simple. Our business visitation is designed to evaluate your current needs and find out whether or not there are programs and resources available to address each specific one. It’s a customized conversation and follow-up and best of all, it’s available to any business!
Q: Does VEDA charge for its services?
A: All of our services are free to the public with few exceptions. On occasion we will host an event or seminar that will have a nominal fee to cover expenses, but our presentations, data, visitations, start-up and recruitment services are free and available.
Q: Do I have to call to set up an appointment? What if I already know what I need?
A: In an attempt to expedite your requests, we’ve created a form where you can request a service when it’s convenient for you. Our Business Resource Form gives us what we need to know to start your project without ever picking up the phone. Obviously, you’re encouraged to call or email with any questions, but we know your time is valuable!
Q: How do I keep up-to-date on what's happening in the parish?
A: We have assembled all the ways to Get Connected in one spot. Whether you want to attend our events, follow us on social media, send us a message, or sign up for news, we’ve got you covered! We also provide access via our Initiatives page, publish our minutes in the paper and online, and share our monthly highlights and reports on our Results page.
Q: What's your wait time on services?
A: It really all depends. We are a small (but mighty) staff, so some weeks are tougher than others. We will do our best to respond to all requests within 24 hours, but we prioritize based on the urgency of each inquiry. We’re happy to work with you on the anticipated timeline of your individual project.
Q: Is VEDA a part of the parish government? State? What is VEDA?
A: Vermilion Economic Development Alliance is just that, an alliance between several parish-wide entities and the municipalities in Vermilion. We are a political subdivision of the state, meaning we act autonomously with regards to parish governance, but still abide by the standard regulations of the Louisiana government. Still confused? Visit The Alliance page for a little clarity on who we are and what we stand for.
